Yeovil Town manager Billy Rowley has called for patience as his team embarks on the new National League season, recognising that it may take six to nine months before the squad reaches its full potential.
Following a significant summer overhaul, the Glovers have welcomed 15 new signings to Huish Park, while 10 players have departed. Yeovil begin their campaign with an away fixture against Scunthorpe United, aiming to break a challenging run of five matches without a win against the Iron. Their last triumph at Glanford Park was back in 2012.
Despite the enthusiasm surrounding the club, Rowley emphasises the need for steady progress as his restructured team develops cohesion. “I think there’s a lot of excitement around the team and the club at the moment,” he said. “I’m still sitting from my seat thinking this is a two-year project.”

“We want to finish as high as possible this year, and we want to win every game. We’re going to Scunthorpe to try and win the game,” he added.
While many supporters are optimistic about Yeovil challenging near the top of the table, Rowley remains cautious. “Do I think we’ll be up there? I don’t know,” he admitted. “Do we have some good players this year? Has recruitment been good? Yes, we’ll just take it game by game.”
The strengthened squad presents Rowley with tough selection decisions ahead of Saturday’s opener. “We’ve got serious talent and one or two will have to be left out of the squad, which is gut wrenching as a management team,” he said. “I haven’t decided on the squad yet; we’ve got a rough idea of it.”
Looking ahead to the opening match, Rowley is eager for the challenge, acknowledging the strength of their opponents. “I’m looking forward to it. Andy’s done a great job with Scunthorpe, and I know what they’re about-they’re a really difficult team to play against.”
The Glovers will kick off their season this Saturday, with Rowley determined for his side to imprint their style of play and secure three points to bring back to Somerset.
