Billy Rowley Left Wanting More After Yeovil Town Held to Goalless Draw

Yeovil Town manager Billy Rowley expressed mixed feelings following his side’s 0-0 draw against playoff contender FC Halifax Town at Huish Park. “Obviously they’re pushing for a playoff spot and have had a great season, but I think we more than matched them,” Rowley said after the tightly contested match.

The game was balanced in the first half, with few clear chances for either side. Yeovil grew more assertive after the break, creating several promising opportunities, though they ultimately failed to find a breakthrough. “We kind of cancelled each other out,” Rowley noted, “but credit to our boys. The first half wasn’t amazing, but at halftime, we made some tactical adjustments to get in behind their defence more effectively.”

In the second half, Yeovil’s intent was clear, with James Daly, Brett McGavin, and Ryan Jones all coming close to scoring. “We ended with some decent chances,” Rowley commented. “On another day, we might have won 2-0 – that would have been an incredible result.”

Rowley admitted there remains room for improvement in the final third. “I’d like to see us sustain attacks a little longer; sometimes we were a bit rushed in our decision-making,” he reflected. “It wasn’t a bad performance, not amazing but not a bad result either – just not great.”

Defensively, the Glovers stood firm against Halifax’s playoff push. “Credit to our management team for planning the game well,” said Rowley. “Our press was solid, and the lads at the back—Mukena, Cousin-Dawson, and Ellison—defended the box exceptionally well.”

A disruption before kickoff saw Kyle Ferguson forced out during warm-ups due to a knee knock from an incident with Harvey Greenslade. “We’ll have to wait 24 to 48 hours to know the extent,” Rowley explained. “It forced us to tweak the starting line-up, but the squad adapted well.”

Jonathon Page also made a welcome return from injury. “Pagey has a top football brain,” Rowley praised. “Always in the right positions, offering good angles and comfortable on the ball.”

Late in the game, Halifax struck the bar from distance, a moment that raised some concern. Rowley defended goalkeeper Jed’s positioning, saying, “As soon as they hit it with the wind, I thought Jed might be in trouble. But Daz keeps him focused on positioning. Sometimes you might get caught out—it’s on me when that happens.”

Looking ahead, the Glovers face their final away match of the season at promotion-chasing York City. “We’re going to play against an outstanding team in front of a sell-out crowd,” Rowley said. “Our aim is to win and maybe spoil their party a little.”
