Billy Rowley Apologises After Yeovil Town’s Disappointing Defeat at Brackley

Yeovil Town manager Billy Rowley expressed his gratitude to the supporters while apologizing for a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Brackley that left the Glovers struggling to break through a determined defense.

Despite controlling possession for most of the match, Yeovil failed to convert their dominance into goals, as Brackley capitalized on two critical defensive errors in the first half. The Saints opened the scoring following a defensive mistake from Yeovil, but Kyle Ferguson brought the Glovers back into the game with a well-timed header.

However, former Yeovil player Ben Wodskou restored Brackley’s lead just before halftime, finishing from close range after another defensive lapse. Rowley took full responsibility for the errors, saying, “The two goals are errors from us. One was a set-piece chance which we didn’t defend properly, and the other was a mix-up on an early counter.”

Though Yeovil dominated possession in the second half, they struggled to find a decisive attacking spark. Rowley admitted, “We started to doubt ourselves and overthink a bit. Our attacking choices weren’t great, which cost us.”

Reflecting on the team’s approach against a low block, Rowley acknowledged missed tactical opportunities, explaining, “There are two ways to break down a low block: either slow the game to draw opponents out before speeding up, or move the ball quickly side to side. We did neither.”

Despite the defeat, Rowley sees this setback as motivation. “It motivates me a lot. I’ll identify the players eager to join this journey and those who aren’t.”

Looking ahead, Yeovil returns to Huish Park on Tuesday to face Aldershot, with Rowley aiming to seize the chance for a strong home performance. “One thing we want to do in these last 19 games is be very solid at home.”
