Beloved Somerset pub landlord mourned following his passing

The Somerset community is mourning the loss of Lee Swann, a well-loved pub landlord who managed several establishments across the South West. Lee tragically lost his battle with lung cancer on March 25, passing away at The Market Inn in St Cleer, Cornwall. This news has led to an outpouring of tributes and heartfelt messages from those who knew him well.

Fondly remembered for his warm and welcoming presence behind the bar at the Millers Inn in Wincanton, Lee’s influence extended to various other pubs in Plymouth, including the Crown and Column, Queen and Constitution, Shakespeare, Bristol Castle, and Half Moon Inn. His dedication to the trade was evident as he also managed the Market Inn in St Cleer and The Ford Inn on Alexandra Road in Plymouth, alongside his wife April as reported by PlymouthLive.

Reflecting on her late husband, April shared, “He was the absolute light of my life. My soulmate. We are quite passionate about pubs, so we normally look after pubs that are going to close down or are closed whilst waiting for suitable tenants.”

April recounted the events leading to Lee’s passing, revealing that they were in the process of returning the keys to a pub in Wincanton. Concerned when she couldn’t reach him by phone, she discovered through pub cameras that something was amiss. This prompted her to contact emergency services and travel back to St Cleer, where she received invaluable assistance from the police and local businesses.

Describing Lee as a kind and thoughtful man who courageously shared his mental health journey, April highlighted the positive impact he had on those around him. She praised his ability to connect with others and create a warm, inviting atmosphere in any room.

Lee’s legacy is evident not only through the lasting impact he made on his community but also in the loving memories held by his family. Born in Singapore to Eddie and Sue Swann, he is survived by his sisters, Shelly and Nichola, and his children, Shane, Jack, Ellie, Daniel, Matthew, Luke, Ben, and Ellie-Mae. He also leaves behind several grandchildren who held a special place in his heart.

To honor his memory, a fundraiser has been initiated to ensure Lee receives a fitting farewell. The community has shown overwhelming support, currently raising £2,715 out of the targeted £3,000 for his funeral expenses.

Lee Swann’s passing has undoubtedly left a void in the hearts of many, but his enduring spirit and contributions to the pub industry will be cherished for years to come.
