After nearly 40 years of serving the Bath community, the Bengal Brasserie on Milsom Street has closed its doors for good. On Sunday, November 16, the iconic Indian restaurant welcomed its final guests before bidding a heartfelt farewell to loyal patrons.
Owners Mukthar and Martin expressed their deep gratitude in a statement on their website: “It is with great sadness that, after 38 years of trading, Bengal Brasserie will be closing its doors. From Mukthar and Martin, we extend our deepest thanks to everyone who has supported us over the years. Saying goodbye comes with heavy hearts, as we have had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people and forming lifelong friendships. We will miss you all dearly. Thank you for your friendship, loyalty, and support.”
While the exact reasons for the closure were not disclosed, the Bengal Brasserie had maintained a strong reputation, boasting a 4.4 out of 5-star rating on Google. Loyal customers frequently praised the restaurant’s welcoming atmosphere, attentive service, and delicious cuisine.

One recent review highlighted the charm of the venue: “We had heard great things about Bengal Brasserie and finally decided to try it. Down the stairs on Milsom Street, the unassuming restaurant offered a clean and comfortable setting. The service was excellent throughout, and the food was absolutely perfect. My partner enjoyed a multi-dish meal and even the mango dessert was a delightful finish. The whole evening was a wonderful experience – a true gem in the heart of Bath.”
As of now, it remains unclear what will take the place of the Bengal Brasserie on bustling Milsom Street. The area is known for its historic shops and eateries, including the recently closed Jolly’s department store, which is set to reopen next spring after being acquired by Morleys Stores Ltd.
The closure marks the end of an era for Bengal Brasserie, leaving a lasting legacy in Bath’s vibrant culinary scene.
