Emma Britton, a cherished former BBC radio presenter, has died following a brave fight against an incurable form of cancer. Her family announced her peaceful passing on Saturday, May 23, expressing deep sorrow and celebrating the remarkable strength she showed throughout her illness.
Emma was diagnosed last year with stage 4 ALK-positive lung cancer, a diagnosis she openly shared with her followers. She described her condition as “potentially manageable but not curable,” and maintained her transparency about her treatment and experiences. Tragically, three weeks ago she suffered a stroke, which her family said was too much for her to overcome.
The family statement read: “With hearts full of love and loss, we share the news that our beloved Emma has left us. Emma faced her condition with determination, honesty, and grace—qualities she extended to many others facing similar challenges. We know how much she meant to everyone.”

Tributes have poured in, highlighting her kindness, humor, loyalty, and the profound difference she made in the lives of many.
Stephanie Marshall, Head of BBC West, reflected: “Emma was a true force of nature, deeply dedicated to Bristol, Somerset, and the community. Her transition from fitness instructor to breakfast presenter showcased her relatable charm and genuine care. Even during her illness, she championed the right language around cancer, educating us all. Emma was a proud representative of her hometown, Bridgwater, and she will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.”
The family plans to commemorate Emma’s life in a way that reflects her spirit and compassion. They encourage friends, family, and followers to share their memories as they grieve and celebrate her extraordinary legacy.
