Beckford’s Tower, a renowned historical attraction in Bath, is set to reopen following a significant £3.9 million refurbishment. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover a long-hidden grotto and ascend to the pinnacle of the tower, offering captivating views, when it officially reopens on Saturday, June 29.
Patrizia Ribul, Director of Museums at Bath Preservation Trust, expressed her enthusiasm for the reopening, highlighting the addition of the enigmatic grotto as a key enhancement to the visitor experience.
She also expressed appreciation for the support received from various contributors, including The National Lottery Heritage Fund, National Lottery players, and Historic England.
Moreover, the reopening will also shed light on the historical figure William Beckford’s involvement in the transatlantic slave trade. Amy Frost, Senior Curator at Bath Preservation Trust, emphasized the importance of openly addressing Beckford’s ties to slavery and the commitment to sharing previously untold stories at the museum.
