Fans of BBC’s Countryfile were deeply moved after Adam Henson shared a heartfelt update about the struggles his farm is facing due to an intense drought. While Adam is widely recognized for his work on the show, he also manages his family’s farm in the Cotswolds—land originally established by his father.
Adam regularly connects with his Instagram followers by offering honest insights into rural life, sharing both its rewards and challenges. However, his recent video detailing the parched conditions on his farm struck a chord, as he revealed how the prolonged drought has severely impacted both crops and livestock.
In the video, Adam explains, “The drought has brought real challenges to both our crops and livestock. Thankfully, it has rained since filming, and we’re beginning to see signs of recovery in our grassland.” He elaborated on the specific hardships, describing how the thin, stony Cotswold brash soil dries out quickly, leaving fields brown and lifeless.

“Where there should be green grass for the sheep to graze, it’s now dry and barren, with hard sheep muck that hasn’t been broken down by rain, beetles, or worms,” Adam said. He highlighted the difficulties farmers nationwide face, noting many are already feeding their animals full winter rations despite it being summer.
He concluded with a sobering reminder of the realities of farming in such extreme conditions: “Usually, you feed hay and silage in winter when grass doesn’t grow. But this year, the animals are being fed this supplementary food in the middle of summer because there’s nothing fresh left for them to eat.”
Followers quickly responded, praising Adam for shedding light on a crucial issue. Comments ranged from empathetic to encouraging, such as, “Great video, Adam. What a tough year our farmers have had. Here’s to hoping we get some proper rain soon,” and “Good educational post, this one, Adam.”
The post resonated strongly with fans, many expressing solidarity and appreciation for Adam’s transparency in sharing the harsh realities of farming life during a drought.
