Bath’s Reform UK Chair Addresses Controversy Over SS Uniform Photos

Tim Nott, chair of the Bath branch of Reform UK, has spoken out to clarify why photos of him wearing the uniform of the Nazi Party’s military wing have surfaced online. While one image he provided shows him in a Second World War American officer’s uniform, most publicly visible photos on his Facebook profile feature him dressed in German military garb, including that of the Waffen-SS.

The photos reveal Nott participating in military reenactments, wearing SS insignia such as the collar patches and the “Totenkopf” skull emblem on his cap. A British Army veteran with a decade of service, Nott explains that reenactment acting became a hobby after he was unable to join the Territorial Army.

“I’ve done much more than just German units,” Nott said. “There is certainly much more work available for films and documentaries related to these groups. The reenactment group I belong to appeared in productions like Fury and Saving Private Ryan. I’ve met many actors, including those who worked on the Nuremberg film starring Russell Crowe. It’s unfortunate to see how people react to acting in these roles.”

Currently, Nott is involved in filming a documentary in Kent where he portrays an American captain in Allied uniform.

On Nott’s social media profile, which appears under the name Leemans Hecker, eight featured photos prominently display him in German and Waffen-SS uniforms. These images were highlighted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by the account @BoneAshBath earlier this month.

The SS, led by Heinrich Himmler, was the Nazi Party’s paramilitary organization responsible for horrific war crimes, including the genocide of Jews during the Holocaust. The Waffen-SS, the combat branch, actively fought Allied forces in World War II and was involved in numerous atrocities. Other SS divisions served as Hitler’s personal guards and managed concentration camps.

In the 2024 general election, Reform UK finished fifth in Bath, securing 8% of the vote. The party currently holds no seats on the Bath and North East Somerset Council and did not field candidates in the 2023 local elections. In three subsequent council by-elections, Reform UK placed fourth twice and second once. The next full council election is scheduled for next year.
