Bath Sweet Shop Closes Abruptly After Landlord Revokes Lease

A beloved sweet shop in the heart of Bath has unexpectedly closed its doors after the building’s landlord repossessed the property due to unpaid rent. Kingdom of Sweets, located on Stall Street—a renowned and historic shopping area—was locked up following an eviction notice and the subsequent changing of locks, as confirmed by a letter posted prominently on the storefront.

Legal notices on the shop’s doors reveal that the tenant failed to pay rent due on May 25, 2025, as well as an additional £5,000 payment expected the following day. Neighbouring businesses reported the store’s closure on Saturday.

The break notice, issued on behalf of the landlord, expressed frustration over the situation: “Our client has demonstrated significant patience with you but, as has been made clear by our client’s agent on numerous occasions, it will not tolerate your continued disregard for the provisions of the lease.”

The notice further warns that any unauthorized occupation after the lease termination date will be considered trespassing. A separate sign confirmed that the locks have been changed, effectively ending the shop’s tenure at the location.

Kingdom of Sweets was a source of mixed opinions among locals and visitors alike. While some enjoyed its presence, others criticised its bright, garish colour scheme and considered its placement near historic sites as intrusive. The shop’s appearance has also suffered due to visible damage, with one of its main display windows currently boarded up.
