Bath Spa University has unveiled plans to develop a vibrant new student accommodation complex combined with a creative hub adjacent to its Locksbrook Campus. This ambitious project aims to create a dynamic space not only for students but also for the wider community.
The proposed building will feature modern student living quarters along with a café accessible to the public, event spaces, and seminar rooms designed to support both academic and extracurricular activities. Additionally, the university plans to host exhibitions and events that welcome participation beyond the student body.
Professor Becky Schaaf, pro-vice-chancellor for student experience, emphasized the university’s vision: “Part of the Transform BSU initiative is to cultivate vibrant centers across each campus, ensuring we provide the right spaces for current and future students. Our investment will deliver state-of-the-art facilities to equip students with career-ready skills and support from dedicated specialist staff.”

This proposal follows extensive consultations with Bath and North East Somerset Council. If granted approval, construction is expected to take approximately 18 months. The site’s location near Chelsea Road shopping district and surrounding residential neighborhoods on Locksbrook Road, Station Road, and Ashley Avenue ensures excellent connectivity.
Sustainability is a key focus of the development, with plans to reduce carbon emissions through advanced insulation techniques and natural ventilation. The creative hub also aims to enhance biodiversity by achieving a 10% net gain and promoting eco-friendly transport through the inclusion of cycle parking facilities.
