Bath Singing Group Celebrates 25 Years of Joyful, No-Pressure Music Making

This autumn, a unique singing group in Bathwick is celebrating 25 years of coming together purely for the love of singing—without any pressure to perform. The group, founded in November 2000, holds monthly gatherings where members enjoy a wide variety of songs in a relaxed, supportive environment.

The idea sparked after a workshop called Singing for the Terrified at Bath University, led by pianist and singing coach Roger Moon. His welcoming style inspired participants to continue meeting monthly, except during July and August, to share music just for fun.

Janet Densley, one of the founding members who still participates regularly, praises the group’s friendly atmosphere. “We sing music from many genres and eras, suited to all levels,” she says. “There’s no stress about putting on a show—we simply enjoy the songs. Plus, Roger’s knowledge about their history adds depth to every session.”

The repertoire spans five centuries, including traditional music hall, folk, classic show tunes, madrigals, and popular songs. Lyrics are projected, and tunes are learned by ear, so no music-reading skills are needed. The group warmly welcomes anyone, especially those who feel they can’t sing.

Meetings take place from 2 pm to 5 pm on the first Saturday of each month. New members eager to join this joyful musical community can find out more by calling 01225 282473 or emailing [email protected].
