Bath Rugby hooker Tom Dunn will be available for the Gallagher Premiership semi-finals after receiving a two-match suspension following his red card in Bath’s commanding 69-12 victory against Newcastle Falcons in Round 16 of the Gallagher Premiership.
Dunn accepted the disciplinary charge after making head contact with Newcastle captain George McGuigan during an upright tackle. Notably, McGuigan submitted a statement emphasizing that the contact was minimal, and medical reports confirmed he suffered no significant injury. Demonstrating sportsmanship, McGuigan urged the disciplinary panel to impose a lenient sanction on Dunn.
Provided Dunn completes World Rugby’s ‘tackle school’ course, he will serve his suspension during the final two regular-season matches—against Bristol Bears away next Friday and Leicester Tigers at home on the final day. Bath remains firmly in contention for a home semi-final.

Bath’s Head of Rugby, Johann van Graan, offered a glowing character reference for Dunn at the hearing. He praised Dunn as a dedicated family man and a Bath Rugby legend who became the club’s most capped player in the professional era with his 267th appearance against Newcastle.
“Tom is an integral part of our leadership group and has captained the side under my direction,” van Graan wrote. “He received his first red card under my coaching last Saturday, but I can categorically say Tom is a hardworking, diligent player with one of the highest training attendance rates at the club.”
Noting Dunn’s physical playstyle, van Graan added, “As a hooker, Tom consistently makes tough contact—whether in scrums, mauls, tackles, ball carrying or ruck clearouts. He embodies the spirit and values of rugby and remains a key figure as we head into the Premiership semi-finals.”
With Dunn sidelined, van Graan will look to Kepu Tuipulotu, recently called into the wider England squad for the Nations Championship, and Dan Frost to step up as senior hooker options during the suspension period.
