Bath Rugby’s Reserves Show Spirit Despite Defeat at StoneX Stadium

In a spirited display at the StoneX Stadium, Bath Rugby’s youthful squad put in a commendable performance despite falling 36-26 to Saracens in the final regular-season match of the 2024/25 Gallagher Premiership. With their place in the semi-finals already secured after a recent Challenge Cup triumph, Bath opted for a largely fresh lineup, giving seven players their debut.

Bath drew first blood when number eight Arthur Green powered over for a try, highlighting the resilience of the side. However, Saracens quickly asserted control, taking a 12-7 lead through tries from Rotimi Segun and Jamie George’s powerful line-out drive. The home team struggled initially, with early mistakes, but grew into the game by halftime. Elliot Daly’s try before the break extended their advantage, setting the tone for the second half.

Saracens continued to pressure Bath, with George adding a second maul try early in the second half, followed by a third from Theo Dan. Their dominance was further underlined by tries from Fergus Burke, prompted by clever chip kicks, to take the score to 36 points. The home crowd enthusiastically saluted Andy Goode’s farewell as the former England full-back exited the pitch.

Despite the uphill battle, Bath rallied impressively in the closing stages. Captain Ruaridh McConnochie sparked the comeback by capitalizing on a loose ball. Orlando Bailey’s well-timed pass set debutant Tyler Offiah up for a try, igniting further momentum. George Timmons and Offiah were influential from the bench, helping Bath maintain pressure. Another rolling maul brought Kepu Tuipulotu over the line, and Louis Hennessey’s late intercept try sealed a bonus point for Bath.

While victories elsewhere meant SARACENS missed out on a top-four finish, the match showcased Bath Rugby’s promising young talent and their ability to compete under challenging circumstances. With their sights now set on a home semi-final against Bristol Bears, the future looks bright for this resolute group.
