Bath Rugby’s Pursuit of Scottish International Chris Harris from Gloucester Rugby

Bath Rugby is reportedly eyeing a move for Scottish international center Chris Harris, who is expected to depart Kingsholm this summer. The 34-year-old, with 47 caps, has been given the green light to seek a new club, prompting interest from various teams, including Bath.

It is understood that Harris’s potential exit is linked to Gloucester’s acquisition of 22-year-old England center Will Joseph and the prominence of 26-year-old Welsh international Max Llewellyn in the 13 jersey. Bath, in turn, seek to fill a short-term void in light of England star Ollie Lawrence’s uncertain return following Achilles surgery.

While Bath currently boasts a solid center lineup, including Max Ojomoh, Cam Redpath, Will Butt, and rising talent Louie Hennessey, the club’s owner, Bruce Craig, is reportedly supporting their head of rugby in assembling a competitive squad to challenge for titles in the Gallagher Premiership and Champions Cup.

Having already secured the signing of Gloucester’s Santi Carreras for the upcoming season, Bath’s interest in Harris has drawn competition from teams such as Ospreys, Glasgow Warriors, Provence, Perpignan, and Racing 92. Harris’s stint with Gloucester has seen him make 103 appearances, with 14 games played this season, contributing to the team’s strong position in the Premiership table.

This weekend, Gloucester faces Montpellier in the EPCR Challenge Cup, following a successful run last year where they reached the final of the same competition.
