After a two-month break, the Gallagher Premiership returned with a bang as reigning champions Bath Rugby delivered a stunning performance against Saracens on Friday night. At the Recreation Ground, Bath powered to an emphatic 62-15 victory, scoring nine tries and climbing back to the summit of the league table.
Saracens started strong, racing to a 10-0 lead with Tobias Elliott’s early try and an Owen Farrell penalty. However, Bath quickly responded as Will Muir, Josh Bayliss, and Alfie Barbeary crossed the line, turning the momentum. Elliott secured his second try for Saracens, but Bath’s Henry Arundell’s 70-metre interception try and Finn Russell’s penalty saw the hosts lead 31-15 at halftime.
Despite Saracens controlling much of the territory in the second half, Bath’s resilient defence held firm. Meanwhile, Bath continued their onslaught with tries from Ben Spencer, Kepu Tuipulotu, Arundell (who grabbed his second), Guy Pepper, and Bernard van der Linde, leaving the visitors overwhelmed.

The match saw Bath’s Six Nations internationals display their quality and fitness, overcoming early jitters and errors to deliver clinical finishing. Saracens looked dangerous in patches, but unforced errors and Bath’s relentless pressure ultimately decided the contest.
Bath’s dominant display was built on swift ball movement and aggressive defence that repeatedly turned over possession. The home side’s tactical kicking and lineout execution kept Saracens under constant pressure, allowing them to score freely and secure a bonus point.
The game’s latter stages saw the introduction of Bath’s bench players, who maintained the intensity and contributed to the final three tries. Bernard van der Linde’s late turnover try neatly capped off a comprehensive and commanding performance by the champions.
