Bath Rugby has confirmed the signing of experienced Scottish international centre Chris Harris on a one-year deal ahead of the 2025/26 season. Harris will join the Premiership leaders from Gloucester Rugby to provide crucial cover for injured star Ollie Lawrence.
The 34-year-old Harris, who has earned 46 caps for Scotland and represented the nation in both the 2019 and 2023 Rugby World Cups, brings a wealth of skill and leadership to Bath’s backline. Despite a strong season with Gloucester, where he made 158 Premiership appearances and scored 34 tries over his career—including stints with Newcastle Falcons—Harris was released and swiftly snapped up by Bath.
A 2021 British and Irish Lion, Harris’s experience on the international stage is invaluable. Known for his all-around gameplay and leadership qualities, Harris is highly regarded as a future coach once his playing days conclude. He reportedly turned down a longer contract from Championship side Worcester Warriors to join Bath, recognising their status as Premiership frontrunners.

Bath Rugby’s Head of Rugby Johann van Graan expressed enthusiasm about the new addition: “We are very excited that Chris will be joining us as injury cover for Ollie. Chris is a leader and an excellent all-round player eager to contribute to our journey. I believe his best performances are still ahead, and he will fit perfectly into our family-oriented environment.”
Harris arrives as cover after Lawrence suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during England’s Six Nations victory over Italy in March. Lawrence is expected to be sidelined until at least 2026.
On his move south, Harris commented, “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to join Bath, play alongside great friends, and be part of a talented group. The club’s culture is strong, and I’m excited to get started.”
