Bath Rugby has officially announced that scrum-half Tom Carr-Smith has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him at the club through the 2026/27 season. Having joined Bath’s professional ranks at just 18 years old, the 23-year-old has steadily grown into a vital squad member, serving as the primary backup to club captain and England international Ben Spencer.
A product of the Bath Rugby Academy, Carr-Smith has also collected age-grade international honors with England U20 and participated in BUCS Super Rugby representing the University of Bath. Since his senior debut against Gloucester in the 2021/22 Premiership Rugby Cup, he has made 49 appearances donning the club’s iconic blue, black, and white jersey.
Johann van Graan, Bath’s Head of Rugby, praised Carr-Smith’s progression: “Watching Tom develop into a player trusted to feature in all three matchday 23 finals this season has been fantastic. We’re excited to see how much further he can grow in the upcoming year.”

Carr-Smith expressed his enthusiasm about extending his stay: “Bath Rugby means everything to me. It’s home, and I am incredibly proud to be part of this remarkable team. I’m committed to improving every day and helping us win more trophies together.”
This contract renewal follows reports that South African scrum-half Neil le Roux is set to depart the reigning Gallagher Premiership champions at season’s end, potentially returning to his former club, the Bulls.
