Bath Rugby Secures Future by Renewing Contracts for Nine Academy Prospects

Bath Rugby has confirmed that nine outstanding players from its senior academy have signed new contracts, securing their development within the club for the upcoming season.

The players extending their time at Bath include Thompson Cowan, Ieuan Davies, Ioan Emanuel, Alfie Griffin, Will Jeanes, Scott Kirk, Isaac Mears, Max Pearce, and Claudius Wheeler. Each of these athletes has progressed through the club’s Academy pathway, underscoring Bath Rugby’s dedication to nurturing emerging talent.

Notably, props Alfie Griffin and Claudius Wheeler, along with scrum-half Isaac Mears, will advance from Senior Academy Scholars—part of Bath Rugby’s collaboration with the University of Bath—to full members of the Senior Academy.

Johann van Graan, Bath Rugby’s Head of Rugby, emphasized the importance of retaining promising players to build a strong squad: “We’re committed to providing our club with the best developing talent Bath has to offer and we remain consistent in our approach to this. Instilling continuity across all aspects of our squad, including the Academy and our Pathway, is crucial to developing good players into great players.”

Highlighting recent successes, van Graan added, “We’ve now competed in three NextGen U18 Premiership finals over three years. Our partnership with the University of Bath has the Men’s Rugby side leading a highly competitive league, and we’ve reached Premiership Rugby Cup knockouts for two consecutive years.”

He concluded by affirming the club’s philosophy: “Retaining our young talent plays an important part in all of these achievements, and I’m delighted these young men will be continuing their journey at the club.”
