Bath Rugby has confirmed the signing of South African back rower Dan du Preez from Sale Sharks, ahead of the 2026/27 season. The 30-year-old, primarily a Number 8 but capable of playing second row and flanker, brings extensive Premiership and international experience to the club.
Du Preez, capped six times for South Africa, joins Bath on a two-year contract, stepping in as a key replacement for Alfie Barbeary, who is moving to Saracens this summer. His versatility across the forward pack and reputation as a strong set piece specialist make him a valuable addition to the Blue, Black and White squad.
Expressing his enthusiasm, du Preez said, “I’m really excited to be joining Bath. It’s a great club with huge ambition and incredible support behind it, and I can’t wait to get started and contribute to what the squad is building.”

Bath’s Head of Rugby Johann van Graan praised the new signing, stating: “Our DNA is being tough to beat and Dan du Preez fits that mould perfectly. A ball carrier, a set piece expert and an excellent defender, we are looking forward to seeing what Dan will add to our group in the coming years. His test and English Premiership experience will be very valuable and, most importantly, he is a brilliant family man.”
Sale Sharks' director of rugby Alex Sanderson also expressed his gratitude: “Dan has been a fantastic servant to the club and I’ve absolutely loved working with him. I know I speak for everyone at Sale Sharks when I say that we’re gutted he’s leaving, and we’re really going to miss him, both on and off the pitch. I wish him all the very best for the future.”
