Bath Rugby head coach Johann van Graan has commended his squad for their swift recovery and outstanding performance following the Six Nations, leading to a dominant 62-15 win against Saracens at the Rec. This emphatic victory propelled Bath back to the top of the Gallagher Premiership standings.
The match featured nine tries from Bath players, with standout performances from Henry Arundell, who scored twice, alongside tries from Will Muir, Josh Bayliss, Alfie Barbeary, Ben Spencer, Kepu Tuipulotu, Guy Pepper, and Bernard van der Linde. Scotland fly-half Finn Russell contributed significantly with seven successful conversions and a penalty, amassing 17 points individually.
Van Graan highlighted the importance of team unity and preparation despite limited training time. “We reconvened on Monday with all Six Nations players back,” he said. “Though we only had one full training session on Tuesday, our prior groundwork over the past months allowed us to find our rhythm quickly after an early 10-nil deficit.”

He praised the players’ determination and adaptability, especially those returning from holidays and international duties, emphasizing their strong defensive efforts and attacking hunger. Van Graan also acknowledged the challenges ahead but expressed satisfaction with the team’s overall discipline and execution.
During the game, captain Ben Spencer sustained a shoulder twist while scoring, but it was not deemed serious. Replacement prop Francois van Wyck suffered a leg cut.
In contrast, Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall expressed deep disappointment with the team’s collapse in the last 30 minutes. Despite a promising start, Saracens were overwhelmed by Bath’s relentless attacking play, leading to a demoralizing finish. McCall stressed the need for improved resilience in managing momentum swings and urged his players to reflect honestly on their performance as they prepare for the next challenge.
