Bath Rugby Appoints Former England Attack Coach Martin Gleeson

Bath Rugby has officially appointed Martin Gleeson as their new attack and backs coach, taking over from Lee Blackett with immediate effect. Gleeson, previously the England attack coach, joins Bath following his mutual departure from Warrington Wolves, where he worked alongside former Bath player Sam Burgess in the Super League.

Gleeson brings a wealth of experience in both rugby union and league. He held coaching roles at Wasps and with England’s national team under Eddie Jones, serving as England’s attack coach from 2021 until 2023. His appointment was reportedly recommended by Lee Blackett to Bath’s Head of Rugby, Johann van Graan.

Before his coaching career, Gleeson enjoyed a successful playing career in rugby league with notable clubs including Huddersfield Giants, St Helens, Warrington Wolves, Wigan Warriors, Hull FC, and Salford Red Devils. He boasts two Super League titles (2002, 2010) and a Challenge Cup victory in 2004.

Commenting on Gleeson’s arrival, Johann van Graan expressed enthusiasm about the new addition: “We are excited that Martin has joined our journey and look forward to the positive impact he will have on the team.”

Gleeson expressed his eagerness to contribute to Bath Rugby’s evolution: “I’m thrilled to be here. I’ve closely followed the team Johann has built and the progress they’ve made in recent years. Knowing many people here already was a major factor in my decision, and I’m keen to build on the strong foundations Lee Blackett established.”
