A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of rape after an 11-year-old girl was attacked near a playground in Bath. Avon and Somerset Police confirmed the arrest, which took place on Thursday, July 2, following an investigation into the incident reported the previous week.
The attack occurred around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, in a wooded area close to the Clarks Way playground in Odd Down, Bath. Specialist detectives from the rape and serious sexual offences team, working under Operation Bluestone, have been leading the inquiry to identify the perpetrator.
In the days following the assault, police stepped up neighbourhood patrols, conducted extensive CCTV reviews, and carried out house-to-house enquiries. A description of a potential suspect was also circulated in the community to aid in locating the offender.

Detective Inspector Hannah Marsh emphasized the gravity of the case, stating, “This is an incredibly serious incident. Significant resources are being dedicated to supporting the investigation, with a priority on identifying and apprehending the individual responsible."
