Bath Police Arrest Man Following Rape of 11-Year-Old Near Playground

Avon and Somerset Police have arrested a man in his 40s on suspicion of rape after an 11-year-old girl was attacked near a playground in Bath. The arrest, made on Thursday, July 2, follows a week-long investigation that began after the incident on June 24.

The assault occurred around 5 p.m. in a wooded area near the Clarks Way playground in Odd Down. Police launched Operation Bluestone, led by their rape and serious sexual offences team, to identify the suspect and secure the area.

Detective Inspector Hannah Marsh confirmed the seriousness of the case and assured the public that significant resources are dedicated to finding the perpetrator. Following the incident, police increased neighborhood patrols, conducted CCTV and house-to-house inquiries, and released a description of a possible suspect.
