Will Godfrey, the Chief Executive of Bath & North East Somerset Council, has announced his decision to step down after six years of dedicated service. He will continue working full-time until the end of September 2024, then transition to a part-time role, working three days a week until January 2026. These plans await formal approval at the Council meeting scheduled for July 17, aiming to ensure a smooth leadership transition.
Reflecting on his tenure, Mr. Godfrey expressed pride in the council’s progress despite significant challenges. “The past six years have flown by, and I will always be proud of the progress the council has made, often in the face of significant challenges. From our Covid response to investment in new facilities such as the Keynsham Recycling Centre, the council has consistently worked to improve people’s lives and help the most vulnerable,” he said.
Marking personal milestones, including his 60th birthday and his son finishing university, Mr. Godfrey explained, “It feels like the right time to change the focus of my work/life balance. I remain as passionate as ever about local government and plan to contribute in new ways.”
