Bath has achieved the prestigious accolade of being named the top destination in the world by the New York Times. The city’s strong connection to Jane Austen, particularly as it marks the 250th anniversary of the author’s birth, has been highlighted by this recognition.
Referred to as “Jane Austen’s England” by the New York Times, the accolade underscores Bath’s significance in literary history. The city offers a multitude of attractions, with the Roman baths and the filming locations of the popular TV series Bridgerton being among the most visited spots. Additionally, the Thermae Bath Spa provides a relaxing experience in natural hot spring water reminiscent of the ancient Roman baths.
Despite being ranked above renowned destinations like Ecuador’s Galapagos Islands and the museums of New York City, the appeal of Bath is not universal among Americans. While many American tourists have thoroughly enjoyed their visits, there have been instances of disappointment, as one visitor from New York expressed dissatisfaction with the behavior of other spa guests at the Thermae Bath Spa.
