A recent study by Premier Inn used eye-tracking technology to discover which cities captivate viewers longest when shown autumnal images. Bath, nestled in Somerset, emerged as the undeniable winner both in the UK and worldwide.
Participants’ gazes lingered longest on photos of Bath, drawn to its stunning blend of historic monuments, Georgian architecture, and illuminated autumn foliage. The city’s UNESCO World Heritage status and rich Roman heritage layer its beauty with timeless elegance, amplified by the warm tones of fall.

Premier Inn stated, “Bath not only tops the UK charts but also claims the global title for the most beautiful autumn city.”
Bath’s honey-colored limestone buildings glow softly under autumn light. Visitors can enjoy rustling leaves underfoot in meticulously maintained parks and explore famous sites like the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, Pulteney Bridge, and the 18th-century Prior Park Landscape Garden. In the study, participants spent an average of 1.74 seconds admiring Bath’s images. Close contenders included Chicago at 1.66 seconds and Cape Town at 1.55 seconds. Nearby Bristol also earned a spot in the global top 20, offering more picturesque autumn escapes in the region.
This recognition places Bath at the pinnacle of autumn travel destinations, a city where history and seasonal beauty intertwine perfectly.
