Bath’s ageing fire station, a key facility since 1938, is set to be demolished and rebuilt as part of Avon Fire & Rescue Service’s (AF&RS) ambitious modernisation plan. The redevelopment aims to improve operational efficiency, strengthen fire prevention efforts, and better serve the city’s community.
A public consultation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, from 12 noon to 7:30 pm at Bath Fire Station on Bathwick Street. Residents are encouraged to view the proposed plans and provide feedback to help shape the final design.
Construction firm Willmott Dixon, known for its work on Temple and Hicks Gate fire stations, has been selected to lead the rebuild. Representatives from the company, alongside AF&RS’s design and project teams, will be available during the event to discuss the project and answer questions.

Patrick Hollins, AF&RS Head of Estates, emphasized the importance of community input, stating, “While we continue refining our plans and prepare to submit a planning application, feedback from local residents and neighbors is essential. We’ve already had positive support from the community during recent outreach events.”
The current Bath Fire Station, serving both wholetime and on-call firefighters as well as fire safety officers and support staff, is one of AF&RS’s oldest. The redevelopment will ensure the station meets modern standards, minimizing disruption during construction while positioning the service to respond more effectively to emergencies in Bath.
