Bath Festivals, the esteemed arts charity behind the Bath Music Festival, Bath Literature Festival, Bath Children’s Literature Festival, and Party in the City, has appointed Caroline Ferguson as its new Chief Executive. This leadership change marks an exciting new chapter as the organization approaches its 80th year of enriching Bath’s cultural landscape.
Caroline Ferguson, a longtime Bath resident for more than two decades, joined Bath Festivals earlier this year as Head of Fundraising. With a rich background in management consultancy—including leadership roles at Reed Exhibitions and IIR Exhibitions—she brings strategic expertise and a passion for the arts. Caroline has also contributed locally by spearheading events and administration at St Michael’s Without Church and runs a luxury self-catering business in the Bath countryside.
As a mother of three, Caroline has been a dedicated festival attendee with her family, relishing events spanning from children’s literature sessions with Kipper and Mike Inkpen, to thought-provoking talks by Laura Bates at the Literature Festival, and immersive classical music concerts at Bath Abbey and St Swithin’s Church. She shares, “Being transported by the music is both a magical and educational experience.”

Since her arrival, Caroline has secured a new partnership between Bath Children’s Literature Festival and Longleat, enhancing family engagement by connecting with the popular safari park and stately home. Looking ahead to the Autumn festival season, which opens on 26th September, she is equally enthusiastic about the charity’s expanding outreach initiatives. Under her guidance, the Share the Story campaign will launch in 2025 to distribute free books to children who may not have easy access to literature. Additionally, Bath Festivals plans to develop programs supporting music education for local schoolchildren and youth.
Reflecting on her new role, Caroline says, “I am excited and privileged to dedicate my efforts to supporting the festivals and our social outreach goals. The challenges ahead are immense, but I am ready to rise to them and inspire a younger, broader audience.”
Founded in 1948, Bath Festivals has long been a cornerstone of the city’s cultural scene, drawing music and literature enthusiasts nationwide. The charity continues to thrive thanks to the steadfast support of its patrons, friends, and a dedicated volunteer community.
