Bath City Salvage Late Draw Against Ebbsfleet with Last-Minute Goal

Matt Bowman emerged as the hero for Bath City, scoring a dramatic equalizer in the seventh minute of added time to secure a 2-2 draw against Ebbsfleet United. The result left visitors Ebbsfleet visibly dejected after dominating much of the match.

The game had appeared to be heading for an Ebbsfleet win after Dominic Samuel converted a late penalty, which Bowman had conceded with a risky challenge in the box. However, Bowman’s composed finish in the dying moments ensured Bath City extended their unbeaten streak at home to seven league matches.

Bath City made three changes from their previous defeat to Dagenham, with Donovan Wilson marking his second debut and the team switching to a back four formation. The Romans immediately showed intent on a heavy pitch, creating early chances.

Their determination was rewarded in the third minute when Bowman latched onto a pass from Jordan Tillson and capitalized on a defensive slip to score from 25 yards out. Despite losing Brad Ash early to a hamstring injury and seeing Jamie Fielding’s brief return cut short by misfortune, Bath maintained pressure.

Ebbsfleet responded with improved play, equalizing before halftime through a close-range strike by Tom Dallison. The visitors controlled much of the second half, with goalkeeper Charlie Binns making several crucial saves to keep Bath in contention.

With just 11 minutes remaining, Ebbsfleet earned a penalty following a clever move involving Fin Barnes and substitute Josh Coley, with Bowman committing the foul. Samuel coolly converted his 16th goal of the season to restore Ebbsfleet’s lead.

Despite dominating possession late on, Ebbsfleet were unable to hold the advantage. Bath City pushed forward, with substitute Joe Raynes creating the opportunity that led to Bowman’s late equalizer from a well-delivered corner.

This marked the fourth time in February that Ebbsfleet has dropped points from a winning position in stoppage time, a costly trend that has seen them lose eight points. Frustration boiled over as Ebbsfleet’s assistant manager David Kerslake was sent off in the closing moments.

Bath City’s manager Darren Way praised his team’s resilience, highlighting the players’ hard work and determination despite recent physical demands. With a vital match against Hampton looming, Way emphasized the importance of recovery and readiness ahead.
