Plymouth Argyle, managed by former England and Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley, showcased their superior quality as they secured a 3-0 victory at Bath City’s Cannon Clarke Stadium, Twerton Park.
Despite the defeat, Bath City put in a commendable effort, frustrating the higher-tiered visitors at various stages. Harvey Wiles-Richards stood out with a series of impressive saves under hot, challenging conditions, keeping the scoreline respectable.
Alex Fisher, recalled as cover, came close to scoring, leading a respectable performance against a side competing four divisions above.

Plymouth’s journey to the match was briefly disrupted by their team coach breaking down just outside the ground, but they settled quickly. Mathias Ross’s threatening header was well saved by Wiles-Richards after a long throw from ex-Roman Alex Hartridge created early pressure.
As Plymouth intensified their attack, Baidoo’s shot was blocked, and other opportunities were either saved or narrowly missed. The visitors opened the scoring five minutes before halftime when Baidoo’s cross was deflected to Oseni, who cunningly scored through the keeper’s legs. Just before the break, Oseni and Baidoo combined again, with Baidoo tapping in a simple second goal after a well-executed pass.
Early in the second half, Plymouth extended their lead through Amaechi, capitalizing on a defensive error to slot home from close range.
In response, Bath City made substitutions including Owen Windsor and Fisher, the latter coming closest for the Romans with a header forced behind by a Plymouth defender. Wiles-Richards continued to impress with multiple vital saves, denying several clear chances from Plymouth, including those by Freddie Issaka and Caleb Roberts.
Despite the pressure, Bath City maintained discipline and shape, impressing their manager Scott Bartlett, who appreciated the challenge posed by a team likely aiming for Championship promotion. Bartlett acknowledged the harsh conditions and the valuable experience gained from facing such a strong opponent.
The Romans will aim to build on this performance in their upcoming fixture against Newport County, expecting another demanding test.
