Bath City manager Scott Bartlett commended his players for their commitment as they brought to an end Taunton Town’s formidable 16-game unbeaten run on home soil. The Romans recorded their first away win of the season since the opening match against Sholing, with goals from Scott Wilson, Harry Parsons, and Donovan Wilson securing a 3-1 victory.
“It wasn’t a perfect performance from start to finish, not exactly what we aspire to as we move forward, but the commitment was unquestionable,” said Bartlett. “Coming through back-to-back tough matches, I’m really pleased with how the team responded. Considering Taunton’s recent strong form, especially at home where they hadn’t been defeated in 16 games, this result highlights our resilience.”
The visitors took an early lead just five minutes in when Pedro Elawar’s cross-shot found Scott Wilson for a simple finish at the back post. Seven minutes later, Taunton struggled to clear Ollie Chamberlain’s cross, allowing Parsons to strike from close range and double the advantage.

Taunton continued to press with a direct style, but City’s goalkeeper Harvey Wiles-Richards, making his 100th appearance for the club, was impressive, tipping over a long-range effort from Alfie Moulden and blocking another opportunity from a corner.
Despite Taunton’s pressure, City missed two significant chances to extend their lead before half-time, with Donovan Wilson narrowly missing a touch on Elawar’s low cross and Parsons firing over from 12 yards.
Taunton reduced the deficit in the 58th minute through Scott Robinson, capitalising on a cross from Ben Seymour after a long ball from Harrison Minturn. Bartlett praised the hosts’ intensity and long-ball tactics, noting the quality of their centre-halves and goalkeeper’s distribution.
“We had to withstand their pressure at times, and while there were moments we struggled, other periods saw us excel,” Bartlett reflected. “They are a strong team with technical players who remained a threat until the final whistle. Our counter-attacking, particularly in the second half, was effective. We broke on them repeatedly, which kept us in control.”
City’s third goal arrived from a counter-attack when substitute Enzio Boldewijn set up Donovan Wilson, who calmly fired a low shot into the net off the post from the edge of the box.
Both sides had further chances, but Bath City’s performance was enough to end the Peacocks’ unbeaten home record dating back to November last year.
Bartlett also highlighted the impact of his squad’s depth: “We showed good energy throughout the match, with substitutes making significant contributions. It’s been a positive week for us, especially after a 10-day break. The added competition within our squad has raised our performances, and the players are settling in well.”
Looking ahead, City will travel to face Southern League Premier South leaders Plymouth Parkway in the FA Trophy on Saturday. Bartlett remains optimistic: “We have another challenging game on Saturday, and the team is looking forward to it.”
