Bath City Crushed at Home as Weston-super-Mare Settles for Draw

Bath City endured a heavy 4-0 defeat at Twerton Park against Hampton & Richmond Borough in National League South play, while Weston-super-Mare could only manage a 1-1 draw away to Dover Athletic.

The match began with promise for Bath, as new loan signing Luke Skinner showed early liveliness. In the sixth minute, Skinner’s precise cross found Jordan Tillson, whose header narrowly missed target. Despite early pressure from Hampton, the visitors broke the deadlock in the 19th minute when Max Kretzschmar headed in from a deflected cross by Ronan Silva.

Bath responded with attacking intent, with Jaiden Putman firing just over and Skinner causing problems near the goal. Marcus Dewhurst made two crucial saves to deny Skinner further chances, while goalkeeper Charlie Binns produced a sharp save against Sam Deadfield as the half ended.

After an early second-half delay due to a medical situation in the crowd, Bath created a golden opportunity to level on 57 minutes. Donovan Wilson’s skillful run set up Moses Alexander-Walker, who opted to pass to Skinner. However, Skinner’s attempted cutback was intercepted, allowing Hampton to clear. Hampton capitalized immediately, doubling their lead as Silva curled a stunning shot into the top corner following a rebound off Binns.

With time running out, Bath pushed forward but it was Hampton who looked more dangerous. Binns showed excellent reflexes to parry a deflected shot from Nana Boateng. The visitors extended their lead in the 88th minute as Craig Fasanmade tapped in from close range after a cross from Paul Field. The match concluded with a fourth goal deep in stoppage time, when Reece Grego-Cox finished neatly to seal a dominant victory for Hampton.

Meanwhile, at Crabble Athletic Ground, Weston-super-Mare took the lead early when Jacob Mensah scored from a long throw-in in the 16th minute. Dover responded quickly, with Will Dawes being fouled inside the box, and Luke Coulson converting the resulting penalty in the 19th minute to level the score.

The second half saw chances for both sides: Dawes and Luke Spokes forced saves for Weston, while Dover’s Ruben Soares-Junior’s late attempt narrowly missed. Weston nearly grabbed a winner late on as Coulson shot over the bar and Emlyn Lewis was denied by goalkeeper Mitch Walker. The match ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
