Bath City Boss Optimistic as Romans Kick Off Pre-Season Training

Scott Bartlett expressed optimism as Bath City resumed pre-season training last Saturday. The Romans will launch their pre-season schedule with a friendly against Larkhall Athletic on Tuesday, 7 July, at 7:45 pm.

Bartlett led the initial session at Cannon Clarke Stadium, Twerton Park, while supporters dedicated time to sprucing up the ground. “It’s vital for players to appreciate the effort behind the scenes during the off-season,” Bartlett explained. “A football club’s work off the pitch is just as important as on it, and the fans’ volunteer efforts send a strong message to our players, supporters, and sponsors.”

Pre-season preparations have been carefully crafted by Bartlett and his coaching staff. “I follow a six-week plan so everyone—players, families, staff—knows what to expect,” he said. “The first session was an introduction with our core fitness runs. We may organize one more home friendly, but I prefer limiting pre-season games since players are generally fitter when they return these days.”

Bartlett noted the physical readiness of the returning squad. “We have a big, physically strong team, and we’ve been selective about signings and retaining key players. Building the right squad takes time and effort, but I’m happy with where we are.”

Taking charge in March following Darren Way’s departure, Bartlett reflected on his early impact. “Joining before the season’s end allowed us to clarify our plans and retain a committed core group. Resigning players show real desire, giving us a strong platform to attract new talent.”

He added, “We’ve adjusted budgets to better align with our ambitions, which gives us flexibility moving forward. While we’re still working on recruitment, we’re calm about the process—sometimes the best players come in late.”

Drawing on his previous experiences at Weston and Salisbury, Bartlett emphasized the importance of building around a core group with a few key additions to spark success. “It’s a proven formula, and we’ll apply it here. Overall, there’s much to look forward to—I’m genuinely pleased to be back.”
