For locals and visitors alike, Bath Christmas Market stands as the largest and most celebrated festive event in the region. Marking its 25th anniversary in 2024, this market has earned the prestigious title of the UK’s Best Christmas Market and is recognized among Europe’s finest, according to official sources.
Since its inception in 2001, Bath Christmas Market has grown from a modest gathering of local artisans and businesses into an expansive festive spectacle. The event now stretches from Abbeygate Street in the south to Milsom Street in the north, featuring over 250 independent traders from across the South West and beyond.
Organized by Bath & North East Somerset Council, the market aims to create a vibrant holiday atmosphere that supports both local residents and enterprises. This year’s edition runs from Thursday, November 27 to Sunday, December 14, with its central hub designated around Stall Street (BA1 1QH).

Visitors can immerse themselves in a winter wonderland, exploring a diverse array of stalls offering everything from jewelry, clothing, and home decor to artisan foods, cheeses, Christmas decorations, ceramics, chocolates, and much more. The market also boasts a rich selection of culinary delights — from traditional burgers and hotdogs to international flavors like Greek and Italian dishes, alongside sweet treats such as doughnuts, waffles, and fresh pancakes. Drinks range from warming hot chocolates to mulled wine and ciders, ensuring festive cheer for all.
Important to note are the road closures during the market dates; unauthorized vehicles are not allowed within the event area. However, Bath is well-connected by public transport, offering convenient alternatives for visitors.
For motorists, Bath features three Park & Ride sites at Odd Down, Newbridge, and Lansdown, each providing frequent shuttle services every 15 minutes throughout the week, with additional services during the market period to ease access.
The centrally located Bath Spa train station is just a short stroll from the market, serving regular trains from London Paddington, London Waterloo, and nearby cities such as Bristol, which is only 15 minutes away by rail.
Bus travel is well-supported by First West of England and other operators, with multiple routes from the Bath bus station near the train station. For flexible travel, visitors can purchase BathRider tickets for unlimited bus rides within the city area. Coach travelers can benefit from a dedicated drop-off and pick-up zone on Royal Avenue, close to major attractions and a short walk from the northern end of the market.
Those opting to drive should plan ahead, as traffic congestion is common during the event, and parking in Bath includes both on-street and off-street options, some of which require permits. Additionally, the city enforces a Clean Air Zone, potentially affecting certain vehicles; visitors should verify charges in advance.
Cyclists and motorcyclists are well catered for with ample parking spaces around the city center, including dedicated bike racks near Bath Spa station and free designated motorcycle parking on streets such as Saracen Street and Trim Bridge.
Bath Christmas Market remains a must-visit festive tradition, blending seasonal magic with local culture and hospitality—offering an unforgettable experience for all who attend.
