A Bath shop has achieved a significant victory by obtaining permission to set up a stall outside its storefront during the Bath Christmas Market. The decision came down to the wire, with the approval granted on the morning the market commenced.
For years, Gift shop Pinkart had a stall outside its York Street storefront during Bath Christmas Market. However, last year, it was ordered to remove the stall due to crowd congestion issues, resulting in financial losses. After a licensing battle, the shop managed to secure the right to have a stall outside in a last-minute victory on the market’s first day.
The Bath and North East Somerset Council’s licensing committee convened in the Bath Pump Room to deliberate on the shop’s application on November 28. At the same time, crowds began to gather at the market stalls on Kingston Parade.

The application faced opposition from local councillor Paul Roper, who raised concerns about the potential disruption to pedestrian flow and the overall market ambiance. Despite this, the committee approved Pinkart’s pitch, noting that it was unlikely to impact public safety, amenity, or cause obstructions.
Pinkart’s stall will offer a range of homemade beverages, including mulled wine, mulled cider, Italian hot chocolate, and Belgian waffles, and will operate for the duration of Bath Christmas Market, from 10 am to 8 pm, seven days a week.
This victory for Pinkart is a result of their diligence and collaboration with the council and market organizers, ensuring that they can contribute to the festive atmosphere of the renowned Bath Christmas Market.
