Bath Christmas Market: Improved Train Service for Festive Shoppers

Great Western Railway is set to operate 145 trains on market Saturdays, with one train serving Bath Spa station every seven minutes during the three-week Christmas market event between November 23 and December 10.

To enhance the travel experience, GWR will add 21 additional trains stopping at Bath Spa to cater to the increased demand from shoppers. Despite the provision of almost 8,000 extra seats, the trains are expected to be busy during peak times. As a result, a queuing system will be implemented at the station to ensure safe boarding for the return journey.

In the spirit of Christmas, GWR has partnered with the Bath Abbey Choir, who will entertain passengers with carol singing outside the station on Friday, December 1. Additionally, the choir will travel with GWR to perform at Paddington station on Monday, December 11.

Bath Spa station manager Oana Apetroaie expressed enthusiasm for the Christmas market and emphasized the efforts made by GWR to support the event. Anticipating the high visitor turnout, Apetroaie advised travelers to consider opting for early morning or late evening journeys to avoid peak congestion.

The Christmas market is expected to lead to minor adjustments in the normal timetabled services, and travelers are advised to check for any updates before their journey. However, potential disruptions are also anticipated due to planned strike action by the Aslef union on December 7, with further possible effects from short-notice alterations between December 1 and 9. GWR will provide additional details closer to the strike day.
