Bath Christmas Market Celebrates 25 Enchanting Years with Exciting New Features

As the festive season approaches, the beloved Bath Christmas Market returns to enchant visitors for its 25th anniversary. From November 27 to December 14, thousands of locals, businesses, and visitors from across the UK and beyond will flock to Bath’s city centre to immerse themselves in a winter wonderland.

Visitors will discover over 250 artisan stallholders, charities, and food vendors offering a delightful range of handcrafted gifts, festive treats, and seasonal drinks from charming twinkling chalets. Since its humble beginnings in 2001 as a gathering of local artisans, Bath Christmas Market has blossomed into one of the UK’s most treasured festive events. Last year alone, it attracted an estimated 444,000 visitors, generated £60.4 million in revenue, supported more than 500 jobs, and contributed £48.9 million in associated spending within the city.

Since 2021, Bath and North East Somerset Council has managed the market, ensuring a vibrant and authentic experience. This year, 65% of participating businesses hail from Bath and the surrounding areas. New for 2024 is the addition of six Christmas Carts spotlighting micro-businesses from Bath and Bristol, enhancing the local charm.

A highlight of this year’s festivities is the introduction of a reindeer trail encircling the market’s footprint. This interactive feature invites visitors to explore more of Bath’s stunning double-UNESCO World Heritage Site and its diverse range of shops offering something for every budget.

To accommodate the influx of visitors, Park & Ride services will run more frequently, with staff available at all sites and central stops to assist with ticketing and crowd management.

Cabinet Member for Communications and Community, Cllr Manda Rigby, expressed pride in reaching this milestone anniversary. She emphasized the market’s significant contribution to the local economy by creating seasonal jobs and supporting business growth. Cllr Rigby encourages residents to visit during quieter weekday periods to enjoy a relaxed shopping experience, whether browsing gifts, sampling local cuisine, or soaking in the festive atmosphere.

Residents can enjoy an exclusive preview evening on Wednesday, November 26, from 5pm to 7pm. Those with a Discovery Card are entitled to discounts across all chalets Monday to Friday, with offers clearly displayed onsite and online. Beyond the market, Discovery Card holders gain access to free heritage visits and discounts throughout the year within Bath and North East Somerset.

To ensure inclusivity, the market offers sensory-friendly shopping hours from 10am to 12pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with entertainment paused to provide a calm environment. A quiet and warm space will also be available at Bath Central Library during the festive period for those seeking a peaceful retreat.

The 25th Bath Christmas Market promises a blend of tradition, community spirit, and fresh experiences—inviting all to share in the city’s festive magic.
