Drivers in Bath and nearby villages should prepare for a series of short-term road closures starting in late September. Bath and North East Somerset Council has confirmed 12 planned utility and highways works across Lansdown, the city centre and surrounding communities.
The closures, authorised under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, are mostly short in duration and will operate only when appropriate traffic signs are in place. While access for residents will be preserved where it is safe to do so, not all affected roads will be closed simultaneously.
Several closures have specific operational hours, such as Locksbrook Road which will be affected between 10am and 2pm, and intermittent closures within the city centre generally scheduled from 10am to 6pm. Clearly marked diversion routes will guide motorists through alternative paths during these periods.

The works support essential upgrades including local gas networks, water supply improvements, electricity infrastructure maintenance, telecoms ducting for Openreach, as well as council-led resurfacing and enhancements to pedestrian crossings. The council aims to limit disruption as much as possible throughout the programme.
Those with concerns or affected by the closures are encouraged to contact the named applicant associated with each scheme or Council Connect. Detailed technical information and traffic management plans are available via the original public notice.
The orders, dated 24 September 2026, set the maximum legal duration for each project, though actual work is mostly expected to finish sooner. The council continues to ensure residents' safety and access remain priorities during these essential infrastructure improvements.
