Somerset Council has installed two new height barriers at the Silk Mills Park and Ride Car Park in Taunton to prevent unauthorised encampments. This measure aims to protect the site, which has been targeted multiple times by unauthorised groups in recent years.
The council advises drivers of vehicles over two metres in height to avoid using the site, as both entry and exit points are now restricted. These new barriers are part of the council’s ongoing efforts to maintain safety and reduce disruptions at the park and ride facility.
Councillor Richard Wilkins, Lead Member for Transport and Waste Services at Somerset Council, stated: “These barriers represent a practical and effective solution to enhance site security, prevent unauthorised encampments, and ensure the facility remains safe and accessible for all users.”
