Charlie Luck, a barman and sound engineer at The Riff Corner in Clevedon, got an unexpected surprise when The Snake Boys, a local band, featured his face on their latest “bootleg” CD cover.
The band recorded a live rehearsal at The Riff Corner last October, featuring covers of classic tracks by Bill Withers and Jimi Hendrix along with their original songs. To celebrate the session, The Snake Boys produced a limited-edition CD of the recording, which they presented to Charlie as a thank-you for his ongoing support.
Jonah Hitchens, the band’s frontman, explained the gesture: “We wanted it to be a complete surprise. Charlie, or ‘Chuck’ as we call him, has always been amazing, greeting us at shows, helping with sound checks, and keeping the beers flowing. This was our way of saying thanks.”
Charlie, 22, who has been a key part of The Riff Corner since it opened in late 2022, said he was “open-mouthed” when handed the CD. “The last thing I expected was to see my face all over it. It’s a real honor.”
Only 50 copies of the special edition have been made, with many already sold at the bar for £10 each. Jonah hopes the unique CD might even become a collectible in the future.
Owned by musician Steve Treble and Bristol Fringe founder Sylvie Dagallier, The Riff Corner has become a popular hub for live music and cultural events, hosting everything from comedy and dancing lessons to open mic nights and poetry readings.
