Sugarcane Studio, a beloved Taiwanese bakery in Bath, has announced it will be closing its doors temporarily as the owners prepare to welcome a new addition to their family.
The popular bakery and café, located on Grove Street, will remain open until Saturday, 15 August. Founders Neil Edwards and Fang-Yu Lin revealed their exciting news, confirming they are expecting a baby in early October.
Since opening their bricks-and-mortar shop in 2020, Sugarcane Studio has earned acclaim for its diverse selection of sweet treats, including earl grey and lemon chiffon cake, as well as matcha and azuki bean gateaux. The award-winning business, originally founded in 2018, has won six Great Taste Awards and three Great British Food awards, cementing its reputation for quality and innovation.

Alongside this joyful family news, the couple also shared that they will be moving premises. With their current lease coming to an end and the challenges of rising costs, a rent review, and space constraints, they decided it was the right moment to take a positive step forward.
“We’re in the process of securing a new, larger location and hope to reopen in 2027,” they said. “We believe this move will enable us to create something even more special and can’t wait to welcome you into the next chapter of Sugarcane Studio.”
Until then, customers are encouraged to visit the current shop for one last coffee, cake, or chat before the temporary closure. Orders for cakes should be placed by Friday, 7 August to ensure availability.
Beyond the café and retail operation, Sugarcane Studio is also known for crafting bespoke wedding cakes and hosting engaging workshops, further contributing to Bath’s vibrant food scene.
The owners expressed heartfelt gratitude to their patrons: “This isn’t the ending we imagined, but it feels like the beginning of something even more exciting. Thank you for supporting our independent business and being part of our story. We’ll see you again in 2027.”
