Sugarcane Studio, a beloved Taiwanese bakery in Bath, will be closing its doors until 2027 as the owners prepare to expand their family. Founders Neil Edwards and Fang-Yu Lin announced that they will continue trading until Saturday, 15 August, before taking a break to welcome their baby in early October.
Established in 2018, Sugarcane Studio opened its brick-and-mortar location on Grove Street in 2020. Over the years, it has become renowned for its distinctive range of sweet delicacies, including earl grey and lemon chiffon cakes, as well as matcha and azuki bean gateaux.
In a heartfelt statement, Neil and Fang shared their news: “There has been a little bun in the oven for a while now, and we’re so excited to welcome our newest family member in early October.”
The couple also explained their plans to relocate: “Our current lease is coming to an end, and with rising costs, a rent review, and the limitations of our current space, we knew it was time to make a difficult but positive decision.
“We’re in the process of securing a new, larger venue and hope to reopen in 2027. We truly believe this move will enable us to create something even more special, and we can’t wait to welcome you into the next chapter.”
They encouraged customers to visit their current shop before the temporary closure: “We’d love to see you one last time at our current location for a coffee, a cake, a chat, or simply to say goodbye - or rather, see you soon!”
“This isn’t the ending we imagined, but it feels like the beginning of something even more exciting. Thank you for believing in us, supporting our little independent business, and being part of our story. We’ll see you again in 2027.”
Besides operating a café and retail shop, Sugarcane Studio has gained a reputation for crafting bespoke wedding cakes and hosting baking workshops. Their excellence has been recognised with six Great Taste Awards and three Great British Food awards.
Customers wishing to place cake orders should do so by Friday, 7 August. Sugarcane Studio will then close after 15 August for an extended period, returning with a new chapter in 2027.
