Arson Investigation Underway Following Fire at Tesco and Caravans in Glastonbury

An arson investigation is currently underway after a fire severely damaged three caravans and a nearby Tesco supermarket in Glastonbury over the weekend. Emergency services were dispatched to Beckery New Road at approximately 8:15 pm where they found the fire had engulfed two caravans and caused significant damage to a third, as well as the Tesco store.

On Sunday, June 13, police arrested a man in his 40s and a woman in her 20s on suspicion of arson, arson with intent to endanger life, and assaulting an emergency worker. Both suspects have since been released on conditional bail while the investigation continues.

The Tesco store was forced to close on Saturday due to extensive damage but was able to reopen the following day. Sergeant Simon Lancey from the Glastonbury neighbourhood policing team described the incident as suspicious and stressed the dangers posed by deliberately setting fires, noting thankfully no injuries occurred.
