Dan Norris, the MP for North East Somerset and Hanham, has made one of his first public statements since his arrests on serious sexual offence allegations spanning from the 2000s to the 2020s. Norris, who was initially arrested in April 2025, now faces further allegations including rape against a second woman, sexual assault against a third, and accusations of voyeurism and upskirting involving several women.
Although he remains on conditional bail and has not been charged, Norris “vigorously and entirely” denies all allegations against him. Despite being banned from entering Parliament under rules pertaining to MPs suspected of violent or sexual offences, he insists he continues to fulfill his duties as a Member of Parliament.
In his statement, Norris emphasized: “I am still representing constituents on a broad range of issues, including casework and policy, submitting written questions, voting by proxy, and monitoring developments both locally and nationally to serve my constituents to the best of my ability.” He also confirmed that his constituency office operates normally, prioritizing urgent matters, responding to all constituents, and addressing public body concerns.

Since his initial arrest, Norris has largely remained silent publicly, with his team briefly assuring continued casework. His latest response followed his further arrest, reaffirming his denial of all accusations and indicating he is contesting the charges through legal channels.
Parliament’s register shows Norris no longer has staff with access to the parliamentary estate as of December, and his own replies to inquiries about his staffing avoided direct answers.
Locally, a petition with nearly 1,500 signatures has urged Norris to step down, citing the untenable situation created by his parliamentary ban despite respect for the presumption of innocence.
While suspended from Labour, Norris continues to cast votes by proxy through Labour whips, maintaining his parliamentary participation.
Avon & Somerset Police, leading the investigation under Operation Bluestone, have confirmed ongoing inquiries into non-recent sexual offences and clarified that no active investigations remain concerning child sexual offences. They ask the public to refrain from speculation to avoid hindering the process, emphasizing sensitivity and complexity in their work.
