Dan Norris, the MP for North East Somerset and Hanham, has made one of his first public statements following his arrest on multiple serious allegations. Norris, who remains on conditional bail, is accused of rape, sexual assault, voyeurism, and upskirting involving several women. Despite these grave charges, he maintains his innocence, stating he “vigorously and entirely” denies all allegations.
Since his initial arrest in April 2025, Norris has been restricted from entering the Parliamentary estate, in line with rules that limit access for MPs suspected of violent or sexual offenses. Nonetheless, he continues to carry out his responsibilities remotely, including managing casework, submitting written questions, and voting by proxy.
In his statement, Norris emphasized his ongoing commitment to his constituents: “I am still representing constituents on a broad range of issues, including handling casework and policy, submitting written questions, voting by proxy, and staying across all local and national developments to serve constituents to the best of my ability. My constituency office operates as usual, prioritizing urgent cases, responding to constituents, resolving issues with public bodies, and raising policy concerns in Parliament.”

Local calls for Norris to resign have intensified, with nearly 1,500 residents signing a petition led by constituent Andrew Gray. The petition acknowledges the presumption of innocence but argues that Norris’s ban from Parliament has led to an untenable situation for many in the community.
Police investigations, which began in December 2024 and are conducted by Avon & Somerset’s Operation Bluestone, a dedicated rape and serious sexual assault unit, continue to progress. Authorities confirmed that allegations span events from the 2000s through the 2020s, and while investigations into child-related offenses have ceased, inquiries into rape and misconduct remain ongoing.
Despite being suspended from the Labour Party, Norris continues to vote in Parliament through proxy votes cast by Labour whips. Parliamentary records reveal that as of December, Norris had no staff with access to the parliamentary estate, and he declined to specify staffing levels at his constituency office when queried.
Avon & Somerset Police have urged the public to avoid speculation to allow the sensitive and complex investigation to continue without interference, reaffirming their commitment to supporting victims throughout the process.
