Armed police swiftly responded to an alarming incident in Shepton Mallet town centre on Tuesday, August 5, following reports of a man making serious threats. Around 4:10 pm, Avon and Somerset Police received a call about a man leaning out of a window on the High Street, threatening a member of the public with a knife while also claiming to possess a gun.

In response to the threat and sightings of a weapon, armed officers were deployed to the scene to ensure public safety. The situation prompted a significant police presence as the investigation unfolded.

At 5:17 pm, a man in his twenties was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill. However, after thorough investigation—including scene searches, CCTV review, and other inquiries—no evidence was found to support the allegations. Additionally, the original caller chose not to proceed with the complaint.
