Armed police were deployed in Bath on Monday evening, August 24, following reports of a man displaying threatening behaviour with a weapon while on a boat.
The incident unfolded at approximately 6.15pm when a member of the public alerted authorities to a man acting threateningly on a boat located on the River Avon near the Twerton area. Responding swiftly, police officers, including armed units, attended the scene.
The boat was directed to the riverbank where officers proceeded to arrest the individual. He remains in police custody as inquiries continue.

Witnesses at the scene described a standoff outside the vicinity of McDonald’s and Marks & Spencer on Lower Bristol Road. One observer noted a significant presence of police, including those wearing heavy-duty gear, positioned on the pedestrian bridge adjacent to Lidl.
Photographs from the location captured armed officers securing the area. During the police operation, access to a nearby retail park was temporarily restricted; however, roads have since been reopened.
Authorities have confirmed that there were no reported injuries linked to the incident. A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police emphasised that while officers remain present in the area, there is no believed to be any ongoing threat to the wider public.
