The family of Aria Thorpe, a nine-year-old girl who tragically lost her life in Weston-super-Mare, has shared a heartfelt tribute to their “beautiful little soul” whose passing has left a profound ache in their hearts.
Aria died on Monday, December 15, after suffering a single stab wound. A 15-year-old boy, whose identity is protected due to his age, has been charged with her murder and appeared in court earlier this week.
In a touching statement released on December 19, Aria’s maternal family, who reside in Weston-super-Mare, described her as a joyful and radiant child: “For those who didn’t have the privilege of knowing Aria, she was the most beautiful little soul—happy-go-lucky, full of light and joy. She loved to sing and dance, and she took such pride in dressing up, always wanting to look just like her mummy.”

They continued to express their devastation: “The loss of Aria has shattered us beyond words. Our hearts are broken in a way we never imagined possible. As a family, we are holding each other close and doing everything we can to support one another through this unimaginable time.”
They also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community: “We are truly touched by the lovely messages we have received over recent days. It has meant so much to us all. We politely ask for privacy as we try to come to terms with the terrible loss of our precious girl.”
Aria’s father, Tom Thorpe, shared his own deeply emotional words, reflecting on the small moments that now feel so precious: “It’s hard to put into words how devastating it is. Our little Aria, you’re up there with the angels looking over us. I will miss hearing you ask, ‘Dad, how long left?’ during our weekend journeys. I’ll long to hear your requests for maths tests—‘numbers’ as you called it—to keep entertained when bored of the iPad. I’ll miss making your buttery crackers, grapes, and yoghurt for breakfast.”
He described Aria as a “brave, kind-hearted, and beautiful innocent soul,” always bringing happiness with her spirited personality. “You always put a smile on people’s faces with your wacky ways and madcap antics,” he said. “Your affection for others was effortless, and you made sure those around you were never bored.”
Tom fondly remembered their family trip to Disneyland: “Seeing your face light up during the princess show is an image that will stay with us forever.”
He concluded: “Your family in Portsmouth will always miss you—your eagerness to play outside, even in the rain, to make the most of our weekends together. You will be deeply missed, our special little angel. A life ended far too soon, but one lived fully with love. We all love you dearly. Goodnight, darling.”
The 15-year-old charged in connection with Aria’s murder appeared at Bristol Crown Court on December 19 and was remanded in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, March 16.
