Archie Vaughan’s Career-Best 95 Leads Somerset to Victory Over Yorkshire

Archie Vaughan delivered a standout performance for Somerset against Yorkshire, the county where his legendary father, Michael Vaughan, once played. The West Country side secured a six-wicket win in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup Group B match, halting Yorkshire’s unbeaten run in the competition.

Seam bowler Jake Ball was instrumental in Somerset’s success, claiming four wickets to help bowl Yorkshire out for 247 at York’s Clifton Park. From there, Somerset confidently pursued the target, reaching it with five balls to spare.

This victory sees Somerset level on points with Yorkshire atop Group B, both having won three matches and lost one. Yorkshire still lead on net run rate, but the competition at the halfway mark of the group stage is intensifying.

Yorkshire’s innings struggled on a worn Clifton Park pitch, with wickets tumbling in clusters. Former England limited-overs bowler Ball delivered his best List A figures in six years, taking 4 for 34 from 9.4 overs. Meanwhile, Matthew Revis was the top scorer for Yorkshire, registering a List A personal best of 85 runs.

Archie Vaughan followed with an elegant and composed 95 off 127 balls, narrowly missing out on a century when he was dismissed by Dom Bess, a former Somerset player. The calm and steady innings from Vaughan Jr., combined with skipper James Rew’s unbeaten 53 off 62 balls, ensured Somerset’s comfortable chase and eventual victory.
